Wonder Woman, ‘The Last

Jedi’ And ‘It’ Are Ruling

Halloween

Fandango just dropped a list of the most popular costumes for this Halloween season. Specifically, it’s a poll of 1,000 moviegoers concerning what movie-related costumes they will be wearing specifically concerning movies in 2017. So it won’t account for the various Harley Quinn, Eleven or Elsa costumes that we might see over the next week. To the surprise of absolutely no one, the top female costume was Wonder Woman (from Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc.’s Wonder Woman and Justice League) and the top male costume was Pennywise from New Line Cinema’s It.

Costumes from Walt Disney’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi made up five of the 20 top respective offerings. “Stormtrooper,” Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren came in second, sixth and 10th place for men. And Leia Organa came in third place (behind Wonder Woman and Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast) for women, with Rey coming in at fifth behind Annabelle from WB and New Line’s Annabelle: Creation.

For what it’s worth, that seems to imply that the older Star Wars icons are still more popular than the newer characters, although perhaps A) the survey participants are old enough to still be bathed in nostalgia and B) it’s easier to throw on a grey robe and go as Luke than doing the whole black cape and helmet costume for Kylo. Having said that, I will argue that those going as Kylo probably have a higher chance of getting laid by their respective partner than those going as Pennywise.

The top male costumes were Pennywise, Stormtrooper, Star-Lord (Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Batman (Justice League), Baby (from Sony’s Baby Driver … that’s a surprise), Luke Skywalker, Wolverine (Fox’s Logan), Iron Man (Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming), Jack Sparrow (Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) and Kylo Ren.

So yeah, I must wonder if folks are going as Batman FROM Justice League or Wolverine FROM Logan or just going as one version or another of the famous superheroes. And yeah, Baby from Baby Driver is the only one that isn’t a superhero or fantasy character.

The top female costumes were Wonder Woman, Belle, Leia, Annabelle, Rey, Lorraine (from Focus Features’ Atomic Blonde… another surprise), Hela (Disney’s Thor: Ragnarok), Ahmanet (Universal/Comcast Corp.’s The Mummy… huh), Gamora (Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and Valkyrie (Thor: Ragnarok).

Again, Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde heroine is the rare non-fantasy character in the mix, while Thor gets two out of the ten female costumes. Not to beat a dead horse, but I must assume that Ahmanet showing up in the top ten is a sign of how few Halloween-friendly female characters there are in big Hollywood movies. Ditto Atomic Blonde making the female list but John Wick not making the male list.

Where to get your Fashion Inspiration

Where to get your

Fashion Inspiration

Where to get your fashion inspiration

Fashion is and always will be an exciting topic in many circles of life. There will always be new fashion trends and it will be advertised in the latest fashion magazines. The latest fashion trends will be seen in fashion stores. All these trends may confuse you, since they are only trends and does not necessarily relate to what you can or can’t wear.

You have to, at all times, be honest with yourself when you want to wear something. That is something that is very important when you create your own individual style. Keep that in mind when you decide where to get your fashion inspiration from.

Where to get your fashion inspiration

‘You might think that the best places to get your fashion inspiration are from the well-spring of fashion design – from newly revealed fashion collections, from the catwalk, perhaps from the movies, TV and music stars who debut collections on the red carpets.

It can be great fun for people interested in fashion to follow these things, but for ordinary women, living in the real world, it is better to be a little more down to earth when you seek out your own fashion inspiration.

You don’t have to copy the stars to be one! Here are some suggestions for places to look to be inspired:

Your Own Wardrobe

It may sound odd to say that your own wardrobe can inspire you but it is true. Taking a look through the clothes you have loved, and those that have perhaps not worked so well for you, you can begin to hone your own unique sense of what suits you and what does not. You can see your way forward more clearly when you look where you have been.

The High Street

Where to get your fashion inspiration Sometimes, simply watching the world go by can help you to hone your fashion sense and create your own personal fashion look. You may privately hate nine out of ten of the outfits you see other women wearing but if you think not just what they have done wrong but also why it is wrong – you might begin to see how you might put it right and that can only help you with your own style.

Friends and Family

Again, what not to do can be as important as what to do, so even if most of your friends and family are not the epitome of chic style, you can still learn a lot from each other. If your friend wears an outfit that you love, simply look at it and analyse why it looks so good on her. Would it look as good on you? If not, why not? How might you adapt it to suit you? These are the beginnings of fashion inspiration.

The Past

Where to get your fashion inspiration Fashion tends to move fast but fast fashion will not always look good on you if you are not six foot tall and a size zero. Take inspiration, not just from the very latest things, but also from the cool fashion trends of the past. Vintage style can hold some real gems. Inspiration can definitely come from the past, as well as the present and the imagined future.

The World

It is important not to have narrow horizons when it comes to fashion. Travel is a great boon to those who are seeking style inspiration. You should think about getting out there and seeing the wider world – that way you open yourself to a whole new world of style inspiration and adventure.

Keep your eyes open because if you are imaginative and observant, fashion inspiration can come from just about anywhere.’

Apply Makeup the Right Way

Apply Makeup the Right

Way

Apply makeup the right way to create the look that you desire.

Great Look Ladies

‘In the fashion world everyone wants to look gorgeous and beautiful. Everyone wants to be the center of attraction wherever they go. A women’s beauty is reflected by the radiance and beauty of her face. The face is considered to be the mirror of a woman’s personality.

Great Look Ladies

Apply makeup the right way,

is an art of playing with colors that sooner or later every girl wants to learn. It is very critical to know the right makeup trends depending on age, skin tone, skin type, texture and facial features.

Clear, clean and healthy skin is perfect for applying makeup. A beautiful and effective makeover begins with a cleanser. First clean the face and neck region well with a gentle cleanser and then apply the toner. Thereafter apply some moisturizer and massage gently over the face. The preliminaries are over and now one can begin with the final application of a beautiful makeup.

Foundation is the base of any make up that is used to enhance the complexion and smooth out the skin tone. Apply small portions of foundation at different places on the face and then blend it properly using a sponge or brush, covering the jaw line, corners of the mouth and nose to give a flawless look.

Depending on the skin types there are liquid and semi-liquid foundations. Liquid foundations are the perfect choice for dry skin. After the right foundation use a good concealer to hide dark circles, scars and other minor flaws. Dab the concealer gently for best results.

Now the make up base is ready and the right time to actually play with colors. Different colors of lipstick, eye shadows, eye liners as well as lenses give a completely different look.

Choose a lipstick that blends well with the skin tone, eye color and hair color. Outline the lips with a fine lip liner and then fill in with the desired shade, following your natural lip line. Lipsticks can be glossy, sheer, creamy or matte. Different textures can be applied for different occasions.

The most delicate and the toughest part of the makeup is applying eye make up. Eyes are the most beautiful part of the face through which one can peep into the soul of the person.

It’s very critical and crucial to choose the perfect make up for the eyes. First define the eyebrows well using the eyebrow pencil. Then apply eye shadows that match well with the eye color and eye shape. Eye shadows are available in pressed powders, loose powders, creams, sticks and liquid forms.

Apply a soothing base color to the entire lid and then darker eye shadows at the outer corners of the eyes. For a more dramatic look a deeper shade is also blended in the crease line and the brow bone highlighted with a different shade. Eyeliners and mascara enhance the eye beauty and give a finishing touch.

Apply the eye liner close to the lashes. Choose the best shades among black, brown, blue, and green that goes well with the applied shadows. Apply the mascara from the underside with less mascara on the lower lashes. Different colors of mascara can be used for a dramatic and funky look. The colors most commonly available are brown, black, navy and green.

The final outcome is a sophisticated, radiant and youthful look. It is no less than applying professional makeup. Below are some of the important guidelines and tips for applying make up.

  •  Clean the face before applying any sort of make up.
  •  Use only clean brushes (keep brushes in an airtight container)
  •  Concealer should a shade lighter.
  •  Use liquid foundation for dry skin and use a good primer for a flawless finish.
  •  Don’t apply too much of foundation around the hairlines.
  •  Foundation should blend well with the neck color….the best way to achieve this, is to use the correct brush.
  •  Refrigerate the lip liner and eye liner before sharpening to prevent the tips from breaking.

The Psychology of Color

The Psychology of Color

The psychology of color, Great Look Ladies

Some people don’t give color any thought when they get dressed in the morning, let alone think about the psychology of color. More so, if they work in a corporate environment where it is expected of them to wear a specific color.

A color can express a person’s personality and confidence extremely well.  You may find there are many people that have a particular color they like and wear it a lot or maybe one or two colors that they would choose to wear above any other color. That, in fact, has a lot to do with the psychology of color.

Different seasons of the year, particular cultures and certain situations can alter the meaning of colors for many people. Depending on the time of season you’re in, from warm, dark colors in winter to cooler colors in summer, they often reflect different emotions in us, therefore we wear the colors, depending on our mood or the season we’re in. The downfall of dressing according to seasons and mood is, we can often be left looking colorless, weary and debilitated.

How much time do we actually invest into the colors that we wear, why we wear the colors we do and really understanding the colors that will enhance our appearance and complement our own complexion that will help us look great and feel more self-assured?

As we all know, we go through many changes in our life and what we liked or what suited us in our youth can change as we get older.

By taking the time to educate yourself and investing a little more time into achieving the colors to suite you, lasting impressions can be made on those around you while contributing to your own self-confidence giving you a MAJOR boost.

Did you know, colors can project meaning without contact or conversation. Yes, you heard right….the psychology of color is much more present in our daily lives than what you may think. Your personality can express a lot by the colors you choose to wear but not always necessarily by what suits you.   Described below is a list of the colors and their meanings by personality via http://www.colour-affects.co.uk/ and http://www.empower-yourself-with-color-psychology.com/meaning-of-colors.html

The Psychology of Color

RED, meaning – Physical

The psychology of color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Physical courage, strength, warmth, energy, basic survival, ‘fight or flight’, stimulation, masculinity, excitement.

Negative: Defiance, aggression, visual impact, strain.

Red is a powerful color. It is the color of energy, passion, action, ambition and determination. Red is strong, and very basic. Pure red is the simplest color, with no subtlety. It is stimulating and lively, very friendly. At the same time, it can be perceived as demanding and aggressive.

BLUE, meaning – Intellectual

The psychology of color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Intelligence, communication, trust, efficiency, serenity, duty, logic, coolness, reflection, calm.

Negative: Coldness, aloofness, lack of emotion, unfriendliness.

Consequently blue is serene and mentally calming. It is the color of clear communication. Time and again in research, blue is the world’s favorite color. Blue suggest loyalty and integrity. However, it can be perceived as cold, unemotional and unfriendly.

YELLOW, meaning – Emotional

The psychology of color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Optimism, confidence, self-esteem, extroversion, emotional strength, friendliness, creativity.

Negative: Irrationality, fear, emotional fragility, depression, anxiety, suicide.

In this case the stimulus is emotional, therefore yellow is the strongest color, psychologically. It is the color of confidence and optimism. Too much of it, or the wrong tone in relation to the other tones in a color scheme, can cause self-esteem to plummet, giving rise to fear and anxiety. Our “yellow streak” can surface.

GREEN, meaning – Balance

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Harmony, balance, refreshment, universal love, rest, restoration, reassurance, environmental awareness, equilibrium, peace.

Negative: Boredom, stagnation, blandness, enervation.

Being in the center of the spectrum, it is the color of balance – a more important concept than many people realize. It can mean self-reliance as a positive. Negatively, it can indicate stagnation and, incorrectly used, will be perceived as being too bland.

VIOLET, meaning – Spiritual

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Spiritual awareness, containment, vision, luxury, authenticity, truth, quality.

Negative: Introversion, decadence, suppression, inferiority.

It takes awareness to a higher level of thought, even into the realms of spiritual values. It is highly introverted and encourages deep contemplation, or meditation. It has associations with royalty and usually communicates the finest possible quality. Excessive use of purple can bring about too much introspection and the wrong tone of it communicates something cheap and nasty, faster than any other color.

ORANGE, meaning – communication and optimism

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Physical comfort, food, warmth, security, sensuality, passion, abundance, fun.

Negative: Deprivation, frustration, frivolity, immaturity.

Since it is a combination of red and yellow, orange is stimulating and reaction to it is a combination of the physical and the emotional. It focuses our minds on issues of physical comfort – food, warmth, shelter etc. – and sensuality. It is a ‘fun’ colour. Negatively, it might focus on the exact opposite – deprivation. This is particularly likely when warm orange is used with black. Equally, too much orange suggests frivolity and a lack of serious intellectual values.

PINK, meaning – unconditional love and nurturing

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Physical tranquility, nurture, warmth, femininity, love, sexuality, survival of the species.

Negative: Inhibition, emotional claustrophobia, emasculation, physical weakness.

Being a tint of red, pink also affects us physically, but it soothes, rather than stimulates. Pink is a powerful color, psychologically. It represents the feminine principle, and survival of the species; it is nurturing and physically soothing. Too much pink is physically draining and can be somewhat emasculating.

GREY, meaning – compromise

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Psychological neutrality.

Negative: Lack of confidence, dampness, depression, hibernation, lack of energy.

Pure grey is the only color that has no direct psychological properties. It is, however, quite suppressive. A virtual absence of color is depressing and when the world turns grey we are instinctively conditioned to draw in and prepare for hibernation. Unless the precise tone is right, grey has a dampening effect on other colors used with it. Heavy use of grey usually indicates a lack of confidence and fear of exposure.

BLACK, meaning – hidden (although black is not a color)

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Sophistication, glamour, security, emotional safety, efficiency, substance.

Negative: Oppression, coldness, menace, heaviness.

Black is all colors, totally absorbed. It creates protective barriers, as it absorbs all the energy coming towards you, and it enshrouds the personality. Black is essentially an absence of light, since no wavelengths are reflected and it can, therefore be menacing; many people are afraid of the dark. Positively, it communicates absolute clarity, with no fine nuances. It communicates sophistication and uncompromising excellence and it works particularly well with white.

WHITE meaning – perfection

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Hygiene, sterility, clarity, purity, cleanness, simplicity, sophistication, efficiency.

Negative: Sterility, coldness, barriers, unfriendliness, elitism.

Just as black is total absorption, so white is total reflection. In effect, it reflects the full force of the spectrum into our eyes. Thus it also creates barriers, but differently from black, and it is often a strain to look at. It communicates, “Touch me not!” White is purity and, like black, uncompromising; it is clean, hygienic, and sterile. The concept of sterility can also be negative. Visually, white gives a heightened perception of space. The negative effect of white on warm colors is to make them look and feel garish.

BROWN

Psychology of Color. Great Look Ladies

Positive: Seriousness, warmth, Nature, earthiness, reliability, support.

Negative: Lack of humor, heaviness, lack of sophistication.

Brown usually consists of red and yellow, with a large percentage of black. Consequently, it has much of the same seriousness as black, but is warmer and softer. It has elements of the red and yellow properties. Brown has associations with the earth and the natural world. It is a solid, reliable color and most people find it quietly supportive – more positively than the ever-popular black, which is suppressive, rather than supportive.

How to Care for your Jewelry

How to care for your  Jewelry?

How to care for your jewelry

Jewelry care means, being careful how you store and clean your Beautiful Jewelry.

If your beautiful jewelry has value to you, it is valuable enough for you to want to take care of it. Jewelry Care means being careful you do not lose it as well as being careful how you store and clean your beautiful jewelry.

When you buy your Beautiful jewelry, or any jewelry for that matter, from the most expensive, fine jewelry to inexpensive, costume jewelry, you buy it because it is beautiful and you would want it to last a long time.

The gleam of the metal and the shine or luster and fire of the gems appeal to your aesthetic sense of beauty, based on what you can afford. The better your beautiful jewelry, the longer you want to wear it. Perhaps even for rest of your life and the longer you want it to have that “like new” glow, although some metals and finishes attain a warm patina with wear.

What you don’t want, however, is scratched or gouged settings and dull gems. Accidents can happen, but all too often the jewelry is damaged by carelessness or not taking the few moments necessary to tend to the jewelry.

In most cases, being careful is the only care jewelry needs. Some types of jewelry, nevertheless, need special care because the gems may be soft, absorbent, or fragile.

How to care of your jewelry Keep in mind that the harder the gem and the higher it is on the Mohs scale of hardness, the more durable it generally is. At time, a hard gem with high or distinct cleavage is apt to be fragile and may break or cleave if it is struck at the right angle. Hardness therefore is not synonymous with toughness. A tough gem may be soft enough to be more easily scratched but it is less apt to break or shatter. These characteristics have pertinence in wearing, cleaning, and storing jewelry, and in remodeling.

How to care for your jewelry

Metals have similar characteristic. The purer the silver and gold, the more easily it can be damaged. Also, you must consider the combination of metal in settings with gem or gems. What may be perfectly good to clean a metal, such as sterling silver, may not be the best for the gems. You have to consider the jewelry as a whole, not as simply metal or gems.

These point are tied in with the third point: the care you take with your jewelry to protect it from loss, both when you are wearing it and when you put it away for safekeeping. All the care in cleaning and storing will not matter if you lose the jewelry. The care you should take in this sense involves the precautions you would take to make sure you do not lose something you like and enjoy. That common sense, and it is common sense whether or not the jewelry is insured, and whether or not it is valuable. The precautions you should take with any jewelry that you like and that means anything to you, in fact, are simple common sense.

Your Own Personal Style

Your Own Personal Style

Your own personal style

Is it really that important to create your own personal style?

The Answer is:

YES, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CREATE YOUR OWN PERSONAL STYLE

If you have your own business or have a great career, it is important to know how to create your own personal style, in order to communicate your individuality to the world.

In business you know that you have to create your brand so that people can recognize it wherever you advertise. To complete your brand, you have to look the part as well. It is a fact that people who are well dressed, makes a better impression than others. In your business, or in your career, it is crucial to look the part. If you are in a career or business where you are in the public’s eye, it is even more important that you need to look decent at all times, even after hours. You never know who you may bump into.

With all the fashion “noise” all over the place, you may ask: “How do I do that?”

It is easier to create your own personal style, than you may think.

I have outlined a few thoughts regarding the latest fashion trends for you, that you may find helpful while creating your own personal style. Your own personal style may change from time to time, as you and your lifestyle change over the years, yet the basic principles will stay the same.

The latest fashion trends should not be followed religiously, when you create your own personal style.

It may be very tempting to follow the latest trends that are advertised in the magazines and just blindly go to the shops and buy what looked so fabulously beautiful on the model that you saw in a magazine. Although the model may look beautiful in that specific outfit, it is not necessarily suitable for your body type.

Your own personal style Remember, the shops have to sell their stock. They display their products in such a way that it is appealing to most people. Anybody may step into the trap of buying clothes blindly without a plan. When you desperately need a new outfit for a specific occasion, you may just run to the shops to find something to solve a problem on the short term.

Any color will look great on the mannequin in the display window….after all, all that she is, is a mannequin, without skin tone.  Apart from color, your body type is the most important aspect to keep in mind when you want to create your own personal style.

If you are overweight, please stay away from a tight mini dress or skirt. You may have the confidence to wear that skirt, but you won’t look good in it and it will have a negative impact on how people perceive you. In fact, nobody should wear a tight mini skirt or dress to the office. It is just not elegant and in any office setup, it is important that you strive for a more elegant look.

You can be sure that there will be very few of your friends who will be honest with you and tell you that something doesn’t look good on you. They may decide not to hurt your feelings and rather keep the friendship safe, than tell you that you don’t look good. If you do have friends who are really honest when it comes to advice, that is great and you should cherish such friendships.

Some people have great confidence and no matter what they wear, it doesn’t matter, nor does it influence their confidence. Such people should even be even more aware of which clothes or accessories they buy.

At the end of the day, you should want to create your own personal style that will be part of your brand. Keep in mind that although it is your own personal style, it should still be good on the eye of other people, meaning your audience or clients.

No matter how much confidence you have in your career or business, if you wear something that people consider inappropriate, you won’t be chosen to speak at a public event or represent your company.

You may think to yourself: “Oh, I do very well….I don’t need to work on my appearance.” I can assure you, if you do well in your career now, by just dressing as you think is “OK”, you will do way better, if you follow the basic principles of creating your own personal style.

Use of Physical Activity to Improve Appearance

Use of Physical Activity to Improve Appearance

Physical activity. Great Look Ladies

How can a person make use of physical activity to improve appearance?

Not only does regular physical activity make you mussels more toned, it makes you look happy as well, since you have this natural “glow”, which just isn’t there if you don’t exercise and drink lots of water. Water alone, is not going to give you the glow that the exercise will.

Physical activity. Great Look Ladies When you do any physical activity with friends, it is even better. It is way more fun to do it with friends, rather than on your own. Of course, sometimes it is not possible to to do any physical activity with your friends. They may not be at the same fitness level as you, or the time may not be suitable for you. Don’t let that put you off from doing any physical activity. Go solo, if there is nobody who can do it with you. Just get moving, if you don’t do it already.

Not only should you use physical activity to improve appearance, there are many other benefits of regular physical activity as well. It is important to know how people may benefit from doing regular physical activities.

Benefits of regular physical activity

Use of Physical Activity to Improve Appearance

If you are regularly physically active, you may:

  • reduce your risk of a heart attack
  • manage your weight better
  • have a lower blood cholesterol level
  • lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers
  • have lower blood pressure
  • have stronger bones, muscles and joints and lower the risk of osteoporosis
  • lower your risk of falls
  • recover better from period of hospitalization or bed rest
  • feel better – with more energy, a better mood, feel more relaxed and sleep better.
 A healthier state of mind
A number of studies have found that exercise helps depression. There are many views as to how exercise helps people with depression. Exercise may block negative thoughts or distract people from daily worries. Exercising with others provides an opportunity for increased social contact. Increased fitness may lift your mood and improve sleep patterns. Exercise may also change levels of chemicals in your brain, such as serotonin, endorphins and stress hormones.

Physical Activity Guidelines

Use of Physical Activity to Improve Appearance

The Australian Government’s Physical Activity Guidelines state that:

  • Doing any physical activity is better than doing none. If you currently do no physical activity, start by doing some, and gradually build up to the recommended amount.
  • Be active on most, preferably all, days every week.
  • Accumulate 150 to 300 minutes (2 ½ to 5 hours) of moderate intensity physical activity or 75 to 150 minutes (1 ¼ to 2 ½ hours) of vigorous intensity physical activity, or an equivalent combination of both moderate and vigorous activities, each week.
  • Do muscle strengthening activities on at least two days each week.

Ways to increase activity

Increases in daily activity can come from small changes made throughout your day, such as walking or cycling instead of using the car, getting off a tram, train or bus a stop earlier and walking the rest of the way, or walking the children to school.

See your doctor first

It is a good idea to see your doctor before starting your physical activity program if:

  • you are aged over 45 years
  • physical activity causes pain in your chest
  • you often faint or have spells of severe dizziness
  • moderate physical activity makes you very breathless
  • you are at a higher risk of heart disease
  • you think you might have heart disease or you have heart problems
  • you are pregnant.

Pre-exercise screening is used to identify people with medical conditions that may put them at a higher risk of a experiencing a health problem during physical activity. It is a filter or ‘safety net’ to help decide if the potential benefits of exercise outweigh the risks for you. Usually, the benefits will far outweigh the risks. Print a copy of the adult pre-exercise screening tool and discuss it with your doctor, allied health or exercise professional.

Sleep and Beauty

Sleep and Beauty

Sleep and Beauty

One can say that sleep and beauty go hand in hand.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say, don’t get enough sleep and beauty goes out the door, but a good night sleep is vital for a good appearance.  A good night sleep may be very close to a fountain of youth(if there were such a thing), when it comes to your daily beauty routine. The cells of your body repair themselves and recover while you sleep and that ads to the benefits of looking younger than you are. Most of us want to look younger than what we really are and the key is to get enough sleep during the night. Seven to nine hours of quality sleep, should do it for most of us.

Sleeping during the day, even if it is possible to have your bedroom dark, is not the same, since there are just too much noise.

According to Dr. Michael Breus, a Clinical Phychologist, your appearance is likely to be affected, if you are getting less than six hours of sleep. Dr. Breus said: “Skin becomes dull and you don’t get those rosy cheeks anymore.”

Sleep and Beauty  I’m sure that you have already experienced it yourself as well, at least once in your life. When you had to work late, or your kids were sick and you had to stay up. When you don’t get enough sleep, you may get dark circles under the eyes or puffy eyes.

Good sleep habits

‘What are good sleep habits?
Good sleep habits are often referred to as good sleep hygiene. There are many things that can be done to improve sleep. While most of these are common sense, life is very busy and we often don’t think about them. Here, we will give you some guidelines for what you should and should not do for a good night’s sleep. Many people have trouble with their sleep. If you are one of them, some of these simple things may help.

What should I do in the evening?

Sleep and Beauty
Try to go to bed at the same time each night. The body has an internal clock and hormones that control sleepiness and wakefulness. This clock works best if there is a regular sleep routine. When working well, you will feel sleepy at bed time. Try not to ignore this by staying up, as this is a window of opportunity for sleep. Going to bed too early can also disturb your sleep. In the hour before going to bed, it is important to have a relaxing sleep routine. This may include a warm bath, reading quietly or a warm milk drink. Going to the the toilet is important to avoid having to get up in the night.

Are there things that I should not do in the evening?
Caffeine should be avoided for at least 4 hours before going to bed. This isn’t just coffee and tea. It is also found in colas and soft drinks. Smoking also makes it difficult to go to sleep, so there should be no cigarettes before going to bed or during the night. Alcohol might help you get to sleep, but it will make it harder to stay asleep. It makes sleep problems like snoring and sleep apnoea worse as well. Activities that are stimulating should be avoided in the hour before bed. This includes moderate exercise, computer games, television, movies and important discussions. Being in brightly lit environments or the blue light of the computer can reduce evening levels of the a sleep-promoting hormone, melatonin. Don’t fall asleep on the couch during the evening as it reduces your sleep pressure and makes it harder to fall asleep when you go to bed.

What about meals and sleep?
It is important to not be hungry at bedtime. But having a full stomach makes it difficult to sleep. The evening meal should be at least 2 hours before bedtime. Some people find that having a small snack at bedtime helps them to sleep better.

What should I do when I’m in bed?

Sleep and Beauty
The bed must be comfortable. Warmth is important, both the temperature of the room and having enough blankets. Having warm hands and feet is essential. The mattress, pillow and blankets should be comfortable and restful. There should be no distractions in the bedroom. This may mean removing the television, computer, radio and telephone. If there is a clock in the bedroom, it should be covered to avoid watching clock-watching. If possible, don’t allow children and pets to be a disturbance.

What should I do during the day?
One very important thing is to stay out of bed. Some people use the bedroom as a living room, where they study, watch television, make phone calls and read books. This will make it harder to sleep. The brain will no longer link the bed with sleep. The bedroom should be used for sleeping and intimacy only. As a rule, exercise is good for sleep, but not just before going to bed. The best times are in the morning and before the evening meal. Being out in the sun during the day will improve sleep at night. This will help with yourbody clock and the melatonin levels in the body. It is best to be outside in the early part of the day.

What should I do if I can’t get to sleep?

Sleep and Beauty. Great Look Ladies
Sleep is not something that you can force to happen. If you are not asleep within 20 to 30 minutes of going to bed you should get up. Go to another darkened room and sit quietly. Do not watch television, use a computer, eat, drink or do household chores. When you feel tired again go back to bed. This helps your mind link bed with sleep – not with being unhappy and not sleeping. Do not look at the clock because no matter what time it is you will have an emotional reaction. Rest is good – it does not have to be sleep. Don’t label yourself as an insomniac.

What if you can’t shut off your mind?
Some people lie awake in bed at night and cannot switch of their thoughts. If this is a problem, set aside a ‘worry time’ during the evening. Use this time to think about what has been happening during the day, make plans and possible solutions. Then don’t think about these things until the next day. Keep the hour before bed as your wind down time – develop a routine that prepares your body and mind for sleep. Listen to quiet music or do relaxation. Remember that we can never shut off our mind. Our thoughts continue all the time, so try to make them calmer thoughts. Create a favorite fantasy place. Or daydream of your favorite holiday spot. If other thoughts come in, consider them for a moment and then try to gently replace them with calm thoughts.

Are naps good or bad?
It depends. Remember that the average adult sleeps for between seven and nine hours a day. Naps will take up some of this time. But if you are taking short afternoon naps without any problems, then you might want to keep doing this. On the other hand, naps in the evening, or dozing in front of the TV, can make it harder to get to sleep at night.

What about prescription medicines and sleep?
Some of these will make it easier to get to sleep. But others will keep you awake. It is best to take them only when your doctor or pharmacist says so. Sleeping pills can be good when a specific event in your life is making it hard to sleep. But they are only a short term fix. If you take regular doses, they will stop working. Once you stop them, you might find it harder to get to sleep. Also they can make you sleepy during the day.

How much sleep do I need?
Most adults need between seven and nine hours sleep each day. But this may include naps and time spent dozing in front of the TV. Be realistic about your needs. Younger people have different sleep needs. If you are a poor sleeper it is very important you do not spend too long in bed. Spend no more than 8 or so hours in your bed. If you spend more time in bed, you will be telling your body that it’s OK to drift in and out of sleep all night. Going to bed later at night may be the single best thing to help reduce your wake time during the night in bed.

How important is a routine?
Try to stick to a good sleep routine. Improved sleep will not happen as soon as changes are made. But if good sleep habits are maintained, sleep will certainly get better. It is not possible to do the same thing every day, but it should be most days. Different things work for different people. Find what works for you and stick with it. If you try everything and your sleep still doesn’t get any better, then see your GP.

Footwear at Work

Footwear at Work

We all have to wear shoes to work, whether you have your own business or being employed by somebody or a company. Your footwear at work, will determine how tired your feet are at the end of the work day.

Our feet bear the extraordinary burden of our day to day living, they support all the weight of our body and allow us to be mobile. It’s important our feet are well supported and protected, so shoes play a vital role in this.

The Ideal Shoe

There is no such thing as the one perfect shoe. Feet come in many shapes and sizes, and undertake a range of different activities depending on your particular lifestyle. Generally though, when you buy new shoes, its important to make sure;

  • They fit properly
  • They are supportive for the kind of activity you will be wearing them for
  • They do not cause damage to your feet or hurt you in anyway

The Importance of a Good Fit

Choosing shoes that fit well is an important part of caring for your feet. Finding the right fit may mean you have to look at a few different styles to accommodate your particular foot shape. Because feet are rarely the same size it is important that you fit your shoes to your larger foot. An experienced footwear sales person can help you with this. Since most shoe manufacturers have their own size range, you should make decisions on what feels best for your feet.

People who have misshapen feet from an injury or medical condition such as arthritis or diabetes, may require shoes with extra depth or width. Some people may require orthoses (inserts). Occasionally, a custom made shoe will be the most suitable.

Shoe Buying Tips

When buying new shoes keep in mind the following;

Materials: Leather is generally preferred for shoe uppers, however synthetics developed with specific beneficial properties, e.g. stretch may be preferable for some foot deformities. Synthetic or rubbers are best for the sole as they are often more durable, shock absorbent and provide better grip.

Security: Shoes should be secured on the feet with laces, straps or buckles, especially walking shoes. If your feet have to work to hold your shoes in place you foot muscles may end up strained.

Shape: Pointy shoes can make your toes “claw”. This may affect overall body posture. Clenched toes can also cause rubbing, leading to corns and calluses. broad toe shoes allow the toes more room and can help prevent pressure injuries

Also check the following:

Footwear at work

  • The heel of the shoe is less then 2.5cm high, high heels increase the pressure on the ball of the foot.
  • Your shoes have a well padded sole, a cushioned sol absorbs shock and reduces pressure on the feet
  • Your shoes are made from a material that breathers, fungal infections such as tinea love a warm, moist environment, absorptive socks can help draw moisture away.

Your shoes protect you from injury, your feet must be protected from your immediate environment. People with reduced sensation or circulation need to be especially careful they do not injure their feet.

Footwear at Work

If you work in a field that increases the chance of injuring your feet then safety shoes are vital. Safety shoes and boots protect your feet, help prevent injuries and can help reduce the severity of injuries that can occur in the workplace.

Some extra tips:

  • Your toes should not touch the end of your shoes or you may damage your nails and toes – you need a gap of about 1cm from the end of your longest toe
  • Shoes should be broad enough and deep enough for your foot, if you can see an outline of your foot pressing against your shoe that its probably the wrong fit
  • Don’t buy shoes that need breaking in, shoes should be comfortable immediately

Shop for shoes later in the day, most people’s feet tend to swell during the day and it is best to fit shoes when they are at their largest. Source: Podiatry.asn
